Warrior wrestlers continue to pound opponents with six wins

Caledonia/Houston/Spring Grove wrestling team continued its winning ways, as the Warriors picked up six wins last week.

The Warriors defeated Decorah last Tuesday 55-12, drubbed Fillmore Central/Lanesboro/Mabel-Canton 65-6 on Jan. 6 and then won four straight matches  on Saturday at the La Crescent Invitational.

The scores at the La Crescent Invite were Caledonia 70, La Crescent 3; Caledonia 66, Wabasha-Kellogg 10; Caledonia 58, Dover-Eyota 13; and, Caledonia 53, La Crosse Logan 28.

Austin Goergen went unbeaten through all four matches.  A wrestler from La Crescent-Hokah was named the outstanding wrestler.

Warriors 65, Falcons 6

On Friday, the Warriors traveled to Harmony to take on the FCLMC Falcons. They returned home with a 65-6 win. No other information was available at press time.

Warriors 55, Decorah 12

The Warriors hosted Decorah on Tuesday of last week at Houston.  CHSG won 55-12 as the visiting Vikings could only manage three wins.

113     Dylan Stemper (Caledonia) won by decision over Dirk Clark (Decorah) 5-4.    120     Willie Krage (Caledonia) won by pin over Trent Tweten (Decorah) 1:02.

126     Kellan O`Shea (Decorah) won by major decision over Luke Werner (Caledonia) 12-3.

132     Zach Henning (Decorah) won by pin over Reece Lange (Caledonia) 1:35.

138     Troy King (Caledonia) won by pin over Joshua Graves (Decorah) 0:59.

145     John Ellenz (Caledonia) won by pin over Hans Holkesvik (Decorah) 3:44.

152     Jacob Swindell (Caledonia) won by pin over K Hovden (Decorah) 3:05.

160     Ryan Mauss (Caledonia) won by pin over Kyle Hove (Decorah) 3:37.

170     Peter Kephart (Decorah) won by decision over Shane Loken (Caledonia) 6-2.

182     Casey Stemper (Caledonia) won by major decision over Tyler Hovey (Decorah) 11-2.

195     Connor McCormick (Caledonia) won by decision over Sean Trewin (Decorah) 6-0.

220     Travis Frank (Caledonia) won by decision over Andy Hovden (Decorah) 8-3.

285     Austin Goergen (Caledonia) won by pin over Austin Ashbacher (Decorah) 3:31.

Austin Goergen leads wrestlers to second at Bi-State

Austin Goergen captured his second  title at the Bi-State Classic on Thursday and Friday, Dec. 29 and 30, at La Crosse.

The Warriors were second in Division 2 behind Ellsworth, Wis., 279-242.  In the three division 55 team tournament, only Wausau West in Division 1 had more points than the top two teams in the next division.

For the Warriors, Connor McCormick was fourth at 195.  Casey Stemper at 182 was fifth at 182. Seventh place finishes went to Willy Krage and Travis Frank.  Shane Loken was eighth at 170 and Hunter Hauser-Coldwell was 10th at 106.

Veterans Night is Thursday

The Caledonia Wrestling Club is sponsoring a Veterans Night on Thursday, Jan. 12, at the home meet with Chatfield.

“Our club and everyone associated with our wrestling program just want to say thank you to our veterans and active duty personnel,” said spokesperson Nick Frank.  All veterans and active duty personnel will be admitted free.

There will be a tribute to veterans by the American Legion color guard as well as the Caledonia High School Band.

Stewartville tournament Saturday

The Warriors compete on Saturday, Jan. 14, at the Stewartville Tournament.  Competition for varsity and junior varsity begin at 8 a.m. at Stewartville High School.
