Gloria E. Faivre, 66, of Eitzen, Minn., passed away Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, at her home.
She was born Feb. 14, 1945, in Janesville, Wis., to Nora (Nelson) and Clarence Dittmer. Gloria graduated from St. Olaf College in 1967 with a degree in Secondary Education and was an English teacher at Caledonia High School. On Nov. 25, 1967, she married Richard Faivre in Janesville, Wis. She stopped teaching to raise her four daughters. Gloria received her Masters in Education degree from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in 1988. She spent time studying abroad in Europe both during her undergraduate and graduate degrees. Gloria taught at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in the Single Parent Self-Sufficiency Program. She worked and volunteered at RSVP in La Crosse as well as volunteering for a variety of non-profit local organizations helping those in need. Gloria was an avid reader, traveler, and she cherished time with her family.
Survivors include her husband, Richard; four daughters, Lynn Schulte, Kim Faivre, Nancy (Todd) Riley, and Jane (Josh) Golberg; four grandchildren, Mitchell and Bradley Schulte; and Aiden and Brenya Riley; one sister-in-law, Linda (Mike) Dantuma; and one nephew, Adam (Lindsey) Dantuma. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bernard and Ida Faivre.
In accordance with her wishes, Gloria’s body will be cremated and memorial services will be Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Caledonia. Pastor James Scaife will officiate. Friends may call at Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home, 518 W. Main St., Caledonia, on Wednesday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and also at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
