Wrestling coach Dan Goergen gave his wrestlers the weekend off but he is planning intense practice for the end of the season and the tournaments.

“Doing well in the tournaments has been our goal since practice began in November,” he said.  “We’ll be working extra hard the next two weeks.”

Goergen sounded a positive note about his team’s attitude.  “Our spirits are coming up.  We know our goals.  We want our timing to be right.”

Section team competition is Feb. 16 and 18.  Section individual competition is Feb. 24-25.  The state tournament is March 1-3.

Four TRC meets remain

Last Friday night’s postponed meet with GMLO needs to be re-scheduled.

The Warriors’ final home meet with Dover-Eyota will be Parents Night this Thursday.

Upcoming TRC meets on the road for the Warriors will be at St. Charles on Friday, Feb. 3, and at Lewiston-Altura with Rushford-Peterson/Lewiston-Altura, on Friday, Feb. 10, which concludes the regular season.

Lake City Tournament

On Saturday of this week, Caledonia/Houston/Spring Grove travels to Lake City for a tournament with 10 other teams.

“It will be good for us as it will let us know where we stand in preparation for the section competition,” Goergen said.

Teams from Blooming Prairie, Chatfield, Eagan, Hayfield, Lake City, Medford, Plainview-Elgin-Millville, Rochester Mayo, St. Charles and Wabasha-Kellogg are listed as participants on the website of “The Guillotine.”

It will also set a likelihood of where the wrestlers will compete.  From now until the tournaments, half of all matches have to be at the weight where wrestlers will compete in the tournaments, Goergen said.
