With President’s Day being observed this next Monday, we asked the fourth graders at St. Mary’s School in Caledonia what they would do if they were president for a day. This is what they wrote:

If I were President I would have no school on any holiday (ex. Valentine’s Day). I also would make a law that you could be 13 to drive, and use a rifle to go deer hunting. Also have more money put into the pool.

Matthew Gavin, son of Tom and Carla

If I were President I would have gas prices at $.25 a gallon. There would be no taxes. The MLB and NBA would be more popular. Put more money into the Community Pool Project.

Noah Jennings, son of Joe and Ali

If I were President there would be no taxes. There would be no gas bills. School would be three hours a day. That is why I want to be president

Abe Stemper, son of Matt and Amy

If I were President I would let kids vote. There would be four hours of school a day.

Wyatt Wieser, son of Jake and Holly

If I were President I would make new coins for collectors. I would let fourth and grades higher get three recesses.

Austin Schellsmidt, son of Jim and Stephanie

If I were President there would be no taxes. Also there would be no school. Younger kids could drive and there would be no speed limits.

Jack Strub, son of Matt and Terri

If I were President I would enforce a law that no one could hunt or kill endangered animals. Kids would be able to vote. Nature would be protected. The U.S. would become a better place.

Vanessa Hawkins, daughter of Bob and Dawn

If I were President I would make professional girls sports teams. I would also say that kids could vote.

Haley Jennings, daughter of Mark and Sandy

If I were President I would have tacos every Wednesday. We wouldn’t have homework. You could do whatever you wanted to do.

Colton McCallson, son of Jessica McCallson

If I were President our National candy would be Gummi Peaches. I would make a new law that says that parents can’t force kids to eat foods that they don’t like. If I were President I would have a colorful Macaw that I can teach as a pet.

Lydia Lange, daughter of Tim and Julie

If I were President there would be no more tests. There would be no more dentist appointments. You would have to get your kids whatever they want. There would be a new swimming pool for everyone. That’s what I would do if I were President.

Tanner Conniff, son of Mark and Shannon

If I were President there would be no more homework. Our community pool would be bigger and we would not have to pay taxes.

Haley Ideker, daughter of Jean Ideker and Fred Ideker
