The Caledonia-Spring Grove gymnasts hosted La Crescent on Tuesday, Feb. 14 for the last regular meet of the season. The Warriors earned a total team score of 121.375 to the Lancer score of 133.925.
The C-SG junior varsity scored 81.250 to La Crescent 109.25.
“Even though we did not have a win, we managed to put up some of the highest scores on events this season,” said coach Jackie Johnson.
“We have had many struggles this season. Cavanaugh, who managed to come back on bars for the last two regular meets of the season, has placed first both times. She normally competes as all around and only got to be in the first three meets before sustaining a knee injury. The team really needed to come together in the gym and work hard to fill the open spots due to this. We did a lot of shifting this season with seven girls out at one point due to injuries.
“At the varsity level we started the season with 117 points and it was a roller coaster from then on. It took a lot of hard work from the girls to put in new elements, keep their spirits up and continue to work hard with so many girls on the injury list. They managed to fight hard and come back in the end by reaching the goal I set for them of scoring over 120 points.
“Hunter, Solberg and Schoh all added new moves to their routines for this last meet and it was great to watch their hard work pay off.
“JV has not had a chance to have five competitors on each event all year. For them to score 81.25 points without a full squad is wonderful.
“When we say we have a varsity team and JV team, this season we really became one team sharing our talents between both squads. These girls deserve a round of applause for coming together and becoming a team that I won’t forget.
