A criminal operation took place

To the Editor:

I’d like the citizens of Houston County to know that when I appeared before the Houston County Board last week I actually gave them two documents they had not seen.

One was an e-mail which named names and discussed options for copying DVDs.

The other document was an attachment listed in the e-mail, it was titled “BlockBuster DVDFAB Operation”. The attachment details possible options for the “operation” including costs, the hundreds of DVDs expected to be duplicated and once again names.

Anyone looking at these two documents would probably be under the same impression I was, that a criminal “operation” was under way in the Houston County Sheriffs Office.

That is not acceptable. People cannot trust in law enforcement if law enforcement itself does not obey the laws they enforce on citizens.

Kevin, I applaud your actions. Is there somewhere a concerned citizen can get a copy of all information regarding the copying of these DVDs? I am wondering if any of the officer’s actions would be, or could be considered possible felonies? If so, then all involved in the investigation would be remiss in not mandating a grand jury inquiry. I personally thank you for your courage.
