For superintendent/elementary position at Caledonia Area Public School District

The interviewing process to hire a new administrator for the Caledonia Area School District is moving forward, according to interim Superintendent Marcia Love.
Last year the school board decided to combine the superintendent and elementary school principal positions into one full-time employee. Less than five years ago the school district had four full-time administrators. This action will cut that number down to two.
On Tuesday, March 13, four candidates for the combined position were interviewed by a committee made of up Love, interim Elementary Principal Jane Morken, several school board members, two persons from the high school staff and one from the elementary school staff. Following the interviews, the group was pared down to three finalist.
Those three candidates are:
• Benjamin Barton – Grades 5-8/Alternative School principal at La Crescent School District in La Crescent;
• Tami Martin – executive director of Crosslake Community School in Crosslake, Minn.;
• Deron Stender – research graduate assistant at St. Cloud University in St. Cloud, Minn.
The fourth candidate interviewed on March 13 was Philip Grant. He currently is a self-employed educational consultant and facilitator with the University of St. Thomas Principals Assessment Center.
Originally, the committee planned to interview five candidates, but the fifth candidate was offered another position and declined the interview.
Love noted that although the school district originally hoped to have the interviewing process completed by the end of March, it will take several weeks longer than first anticipated. She added that the district received 10 original applications for the position and pared that number down to five for interviews.
The Caledonia Area School District is currently operating with part-time interim Superintendent Maria Love, part-time interim Elementary Principal Jane Morken and full-time Middle/High School Principal Paul DeMorett.
