King leads local wrestlers at ‘Border Battle’ in Iowa

Troy King won two matches in a group of seniors from Caledonia/Houston/Spring Grove at a ‘Border Battle’ at Cresco, Iowa on March 9.  Also on the team of wrestlers from the local schools were Casey Stemper, Willie Krage, Connor McCormick, David Guth, Travis Frank and Austin Goergen.

King opened the meet with an 11-4 victory. He came back in the 17th match of the evening and won again 7-2. Stemper won by decision in the second match of the night, 8-4, but lost  in the 18th match of the night.

Krage lost a close 5-3 decision.  McCormick won a 10-4 decision.  Guth lost by fall while Frank lost a close 3-0 decision in the 13th match of the night. Goergen decisioned Logan Hopp of New Hampton 7-2.  Both wrestlers had finished second at heavyweight in their respective classes in Iowa and Minnesota this year.

The Minnesota team lost by a score of 39-18. Caledonia/Houston/Spring Grove had five of the eight wins. The series is now led by Iowa 6-5.

More than 500 people attended the annual meet which benefits the Iowa Wrestling Hall of Fame in Cresco.
