He was born Aug. 5, 1928, in La Crosse, Wis. to Herbert and Elfrieda (Vollbrecht) Deters of Eitzen. He attended Eitzen elementary, graduated from Caledonia High School in 1945, and from the Ag School of the University of Minnesota, St. Paul, in 1947. He served in the Army in Korea from 1950 until 1952.
Warren met Marilyn Uhl of Cedar Falls, Iowa at Matter’s Ballroom and they were married on Dec. 17, 1960 in St. Paul, Minn. Warren grew up working with his father and later became a partner with his brother, Garnett at Deters Implement in Eitzen selling first John Deere and then Allis Chalmers and other new and used farm equipment. They sold their dealership to Hammell Equipment in 1998. Warren always enjoyed calling upon and visiting with their customers and in retirement kept active riding his bicycle on area trails, enjoying the Mississippi River, visiting with neighbors and friends and giving tours of his collection of antique local farm machinery. Over the years, Warren served as State President of Rural Youth, on the Eitzen Fire Department, as Mayor of Eitzen, on the Board of Eitzen State Bank, and as Chairman of the Minnesota Farm Equipment Association. He was a life-long member of St. Luke’s United Church of Christ in Eitzen.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; his daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Dan Kruse, Minneapolis; his son and daughter-in-law, Marshall Deters and Michelle Carstensen, North Branch, Minn.; one sister, Rosalie Davis, Glen Carbon, Ill.; one brother, Garnett (Sandra) Deters, Eitzen; one brother-in-law, Clark (Ann) Uhl, Cedar Falls, Iowa; nephews, Nathan (Danette) Deters, Storm Lake, Iowa and Graham (Kristine) Deters, Mendota Heights, Minn.; nieces, Carolyn (Melvin) Crawford, Amana, Iowa and Susanne (Scott) Borwig, Polk City, Iowa. Warren was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be Monday, April 2, 2012, at 2 p.m. at St. Luke’s United Church of Christ, Eitzen. Rev. Kent A. Meyer, Ph.D., will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery with flag presentation by the United States Army Funeral Honor Guard. Friends may call at Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home, 518 W.
