He was born April 18, 1922 in Superior, Wis. to James and Julia (McNulty) McDonald, Sr. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army AirCorp and he served his country during WWII in the Pacific. He married Karen L. Prahl and she preceded him in death in 2009.
James worked as Area Manager for the Burlington Railroad. He lived in Duluth, Minn. until 1974 when he moved to Brooklyn Park, Minn. He moved to Caledonia in 2010.
He is survived by his three children and six grandchildren, Sharen Lapham and children, Emily and Landon; Jeff McDonald and children, Sam and Max; and Nancy (Steve) Larson and children, Zach and Brooke.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Karen and two sisters, Margaret and Kathryn.
A service will be held at a later date in Duluth. The family would like to thank Dolly Colsch and the Dialysis Unit and Hospital at Mayo Clinic Health System for their excellent care.
