Science made fun

Caledonia Area Elementary School fifth graders got a first-hand look at the miracle of life, as they spent the past six weeks watching 22 chicken eggs and four duck eggs develop into the fluffy, cute critters Aidan Augedahl, at left, and Tyler Klinski are pictured with. According to fifth grade teacher Dorothy Pettit, this science project, which is conducted every spring, is a favorite for the young students. The kids reported that the chicks took 21 days to hatch, while the ducklings took 28 days. One of the duck eggs didn't survive, so students were able to take the egg apart and view it in the embryo stage. Photo by Charlie Warner
