Who’s kidding who?

To the Editor:

Seriously! I would like to know who’s kidding the taxpayers of Houston County? Who’s trying to make us believe we need a new airport?

I challenge everyone to take just five minutes out of your daily schedule and tour the  main thoroughfares of our county seat. Would you like to know what you will find? Empty buildings, one after another, closed furniture stores, closed jewelry stores, closed hardware stores, closed meat markets, closed restaurants, closed repair shops and closed dealerships. Has anyone noticed the lack of “anxious” buyers waiting in line to purchase any of these businesses?

Would you agree that it is time we realize that people have moved on and moved away? Our new jail is only half full right along with our schools. Are we really that naive to think a new airport is what we need to revitalize this small town? If so we all should take a long hard look at the rest of “small town” America.

We are only 30 minutes away from an airport that will allow us to travel anywhere in the world without any extra tax burden. (But you do still have to pay for your luggage.)

It is time for our county commissioners to change their habits and stop these unnecessary projects and spending our hard earned money.
