Bratland shuts out Hope Lutheran, softball team picks up two wins

Samantha Bratland tossed a five hit shutout over Hope Lutheran last Thursday as Spring Grove/Caledonia won 7-0.  She had errorless support in the field and nine hits from her teammates.

It was a 2-0 game through five innings before a five run outburst by the visitors.

Offensively for the Lions, Bratland had two hits, including a double. Amanda Heberlein was 1-3 at the plate with a double and two RBIs. Marie Doering had two RBIs while Taylor Elton and Lottie Augedahl each had a hit. Megan Sheehan was 1-2 with a single.

Hope rallied in the bottom of the seventh.  Tiahia Aune was at bat with two outs and the bases loaded.  Her long drive to deep left center was chased down and caught by center fielder Marie Doering to end the game.

Bratland has 14 Ks

Spring Grove/Caledonia put six runs on the score board before St. Charles could put up a marker in the fourth inning on the way to an 8-1 victory. Lions pitcher Samantha Bratland struck out 14 batters while issuing three walks and giving up three hits in seven innings.

The Lions banged out 14 hits and benefitted from four St. Charles errors.

SG/C scored in all but two innings. Bratland had the big stick with three hits in four trips to the plate.  Lottie Augedahl was 2-5 with a double while Julya Diersen was 2-4 with a double.

Elton was 2-4 with three RBIs.  Shannon Doering had two RBIs.  Marie Doering, Kayla Krueger, Heberlein, Amber Betz each had a single.  Cara Stemper scored two runs.


The Lions hosted Houston on Monday and La Crescent on Tuesday.  Then, they travel to Mabel-Canton on Thursday before hosting Fillmore Central next Monday.  The following day, the team will travel to Chatfield.
