The Caledonia FFA Dairy Cattle Evaluation Team of Eric Houdek, Hannah Russert, Carlie Kruger and Andy Houdek won this year’s Minnesota State FFA Dairy Cattle Evaluation Career Development Event and will represent Minnesota at the National FFA Convention  October 23-27 in Indianapolis, Ind.

The team finished first out of a field of 53 FFA teams from throughout the state. A total of 212 individuals from throughout the state participated in this year’s Livestock Evaluation Career Development Event.

Leading the way for the Caledonia team was senior Eric Houdek placing sixth individually with a score of 474. Hannah Russert finished 15th individually with a score of 461 points, Andy Houdek placed 20th with a score of 456 and Carlie Krueger finished in 45th place with a score of 441.

All team members earned gold individual recognition. Hannah Hendel was the team alternate.

The top three individual scores make up the team score and with a team total of 1,486 points Caledonia bested the second place team from Lanesboro by eight points.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Matt Hendel for working with the team setting up practices prior to the state contest and also the 4-H coaches that have worked with the members of this team over the years,” FFA Advisor Brad Harguth said. “This event is not just one you show up to and win it takes a lot of time put in practicing observation skills, evaluation skills and speaking skills along with a continual education of the dairy industry.  Great job everyone and all the best at nationals.”
