“This was a big win for us over Decorah as they are the only team we have gotten beaten by in a regular meet,” said Caledonia-Spring Grove coach Jacquelyn Hauser. “Katie McCarthy played very well shooting a 45 and Katie Meyer did a great job carding a 49. Rachel Petersen also played very well, shooting a 53, however she had a 10 on a hole, so without that large number she was playing very well. We are still looking to get all four scores in the 40s and to keep our team score around or below 190.”
McCarthy was co-medalist with a 45, Meyer had a 49, Jennifer Ely a 50 and Paige Langen a 52. Petersen carded a 53 and Kendra Prahl a 56.
The Warriors’ team score of 393 was good for fourth place at the Wabasha tournament held at Coffee Mill Golf Course.
“Although our team score has improved since our last 18-hole tournament, the girls were still disappointed with how they played,” said Hauser.
“Katie and Jen played well taking seventh and 10th places individually, but everyone on the team still had room for improvement,” said Hauser. “We had a lot of high numbers again which we keep trying to eliminate. We have been getting way too many sevens or higher. The girls had a great week of practice and have been working really hard to improve their swings and short games.”
McCarthy carded a 45/48 93; Ely 48/46 94, Langen 50/48 98 and Petersen 51/57 108. Meyer shot 57/55 112 and Hannah Hendel 63/58 121.
Schools and how they placed are as follows: 1) Lake City 372 (won on tie-breaker 101-117), 2) Lanesboro 372, 3) Lewiston-Altura 376, 4) Caledonia-Spring Grove 393, 5) Wabasha-Kellogg 407, 6) Fillmore Central 432, 7) Plainview-Elgin-Millville 452, and 8) Houston 603.
