Jennifer Ely qualifies for state in golf

 Sub Section Tournament

The Warrior lady golfers took second place in the Sub Section tournament which took place on Friday, May 25 at The Bridges in Winona. “Although we didn’t put together a great team score, we played well enough to advance to the Section tournament the next week,” said coach Jacquelyn Hauser. “The girls are excited to play at The Jewel next week and have been working hard to prepare for sections.”

Team scores: (top two teams advanced to sections)

1) Lake City 377, 2) Caledonia/SG 387, 3) Cotter 414, 4) La Crescent 435. Chatfield, Dover, St. Charles and Plainview-Elgin-Millville also participated.

Jennifer Ely carded a 93, Paige Langen 95, Katie McCarthy 98 and Ashley Gavin 101. Katie Meyer scored 103 and Hannah Hendel 104.

 Section Golf Tournament

Caledonia-Spring Grove golfers played in the Section tournament at The Jewel in Lake City on Thursday, May 31.

“Jennifer Ely advanced to state shooting a 90,” said Hauser. “She started off a little rough shooting a 48 but really came through on her back nine and shot a 42.  She tied for sixth overall and qualified for State as the #5 individual.  Katie McCarthy also came close to qualifying but just missed it by a couple strokes.  She tied for 8th individually.

“Overall, the girls had a good season. They worked hard and showed improvement throughout the season. We will miss the threeseniors who showed great leadership for our team but we look forward to next year as we have some very good golfers returning and young ones coming up.

“Jennifer will compete in the Class 2A State Tournament on June 12-13 at the Ridges of Sand Creek in Jordan, Minn. The top team and top five individuals not on the winning team advance to State.”

Teams and their scores were: 1) Stewartville 364, 2) Lake City 365, 3) Caledonia-Spring Grove 382 and 4) Lourdes 392.

Jennifer Ely carded a 90, Katie McCarthy 93, Paige Langen 98 and Katie Meyer 101. Hannah Hendel shot a 115 and Ashley Gavin 119.
