Seven Warriors advance to state track

The Caledonia/Spring Grove boys and girls track teams will be sending seven athletes to the Minnesota State Class A Track & Field Championships this weekend in the Twin Cities.

Those seven Warriors include Adam Drenckhahn in the 100, 200 and as a member of the 4 x 200 relay team, West Spier in the high jump, Emma Lange in the high jump, Aly Folz in the shot put and Connor McCormick, Ryan Pitts and Aric Elmore as the other three members of the 4 by 200 relay team.

Only the top two individual place finishers in each event and one relay team advances to state, unless state qualifying times or distances are met.

Warrior boys place sixth

The defending state champion boys team placed sixth at the Section 1A Championships held at Paul Giel Field in Winona last week with 46 team points and will have entries in four events at the state meet. Byron won the section title with 124 points.

Drenckhahn led the charge for the Warrior boys, as he placed second in the 100 meters (11.27), second in the 200 meters (22.66) and anchored the second place 4 by 200 relay team (1:32.71).

Spier placed second in the high jump with a leap of 6-3.

The only other Warrior boy who placed at the section meet, but did not qualify for the state meet was Pitts with a fourth place finish in  100 meters (11.43).

Girls are seventh

The Warrior girls placed seventh out of 23 teams at the section meet with 51 team points. PEM won the girls section title with 133 team points.

Aly Folz placed second in the shot put (35-05) to earn a trip to state and placed eighth in the discus with the throw of 92-03.

Other Warrior girls to place in the section meet included:

• Hannah Russert- third place- 100 meter hurdles (16.55).

• Maria Fruechte- fourth place, 100 meters (13.11).

• Maria Fruechte- fourth place- 200 meters (26.94).

•  4 by 800 relay- (Richelle Mehus, Brenna Werner, Randi Mehus and Neuzil)- sixth place- (10:23.29).

• Michaela Neuzil- seventh place- 800 meters (2:25.89).

• Brenna Werner- 11th place- 3200 meters (13:19.64).

• Hannah Russert- 12th place triple jump (31-11).

The state meet will be held June 8 – 9 at Hamline University in St. Paul.
