Karl Krzebietke

Karl John Krzebietke, 81, of New Albin, Iowa, passed away Saturday, July 14, 2012, at Thornton Manor, Lansing, Iowa.

He was born June 27, 1931, to Karl and Frieda (Schuldt) Krzebietke in Jefferson Township, Houston County, Minn. He was baptized in 1931 at St. Peter’s Church, New Albin, and confirmed by Rev. Paul Franzmier in 1946. Karl was a veteran of the United States Army stationed in Germany from 1956 until being honorably discharged in 1958. On Feb. 14, 1987, he married Rita Bernier and she preceded him in death on Feb. 15, 2005. Karl and Rita farmed on Jefferson Ridge. He then moved to New Albin in 2006. He enjoyed spending time with his special friend, Marvis Hanson, and liked going to her boat house where they fished and grilled out. Karl was known for being a good cook. He was a very active member of the Kenneth-Casey VFW Post 5603 of New Albin.

He is survived by his special friend, Marvis Hanson; three step-children, Otillia (Donald) Ratherford, Buda, Texas; Josephine Bernier, Georgia, and William (Denise) Bernier, Eau Claire, Wis.; five step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; one brother, Paul (Erna), Caledonia, Minn.; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and a step-son, John Bernier.

Memorial services will be Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at 2:30 p.m. at St. Peter’s Church, 337 1st St. SE, New Albin. Rev. William J. Reese will officiate. Burial will be in New Albin City Cemetery with military honors by the New Albin VFW Post 5603. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service.
