On July 9, following a special meeting of the Caledonia City Council, Paul Sparks was hired as the interim city administrator to replace current clerk/administrator Jennifer Feely, who completed her tenure July 13.
Sparks will serve the city part time and work 24 hours a week.
Council members commented that Sparks is very qualified for the job. Sparks previously served as city manager for Albert Lea from 1978 to 2004, executive director of Albert Lea’s economic development agency from 2004-07 and has worked as a League of Minnesota Cities ambassador from 2008 to the present.
“He should be beneficial in helping the city until we find a replacement,” Mayor Robert Burns said.
In years past the council used a consulting firm to help fill the position, but the council said they felt with the right interim clerk/administrator they could take their time and conduct the employee search themselves.
Sparks will be able to stay on as the interim clerk/administrator until at least January, which will allow the council time to find a permanent replacement.
Sparks began working July 16.
