Caledonia falls to La Crescent

Eric Veglahn threw a complete game two-hitter as LaCrescent beat Caledonia 2-1 Wednesday night at LaCrescent to advance to the championship game in the Minnesota American Legion east sub-district tournament.
Veglahn struck out 16, including 11 of the last 12 Caledonia hitters he faced, as LaCrescent improved their season record to 15-4 going into Saturday’s game against either #1 seeded Lake City or Wabasha-Kellogg.
Caledonia’s (9-4) only run of the game came on a towering 330 foot home run by Austin Goergen in the top of the second inning.
Post 191 starter Ryan Frank gave up six hits, struck out three and walked two in the loss.

Caledonia started the tournament Monday night with a solid, 7-2 win over Lewiston-Altura at Veterans Memorial Field.
Post 191 led the entire game as Ryan Eppen put Caledonia up 1-0 in the bottom of the second. He singled to start the inning and later scored on a wild pitch from Lewiston-Altura starter Zach Nelson.
Caledonia blew the game open with six runs in the fifth inning. Cole O’Heron walked, Eppen singled and Travis Frank drew a walk. Mason DeMorrett reached on a fielder’s choice to keep the inning going. With one out Goergen and Ryan Frank hit back-to-back singles to add to the score, and Matt Peterson’s sacrifice scored another run for a 7-0 lead after five innings.
Lewiston-Altura got on the board with two runs in the top of the seventh on a lead-off double from Nelson and back-to-back base hits for the 7-2 final. Ryan Frank got the win, giving up four hits and striking out six.
