Evelyn Mae “Evie” (Nielsen) Herold
Evelyn Mae “Evie” (Nielsen) Herold, 80, of Brownsville, Minn., passed away Friday, August 17, 2012, at Caledonia Care & Rehab.
She was born January 15, 1932, in Caledonia, Minn., to Wilmar and Sarah (Weida) Webster. Evie graduated from Caledonia High School in 1950. She worked at Mansfield Industries in Spring Grove, Minn. On June 18, 1952, Evie married Clarence “Speed” Nielsen at the Caledonia United Methodist Church. Together they adopted four children. Evie was widowed in 1986. She then married James Herold of Cresco, Iowa, on January 9, 1988, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Brownsville. Evie loved fishing, spending time on the river, gardening, canning, playing softball and volleyball, and being outdoors. She will forever be remembered for the wild game feeds she hosted, her great enjoyment of being with her friends, her sense of humor, and her positive outlook on life and all of its challenges.
Survivors include her husband, Jim; four children, John (Ruth) Nielsen of La Crescent, Minn., Wilma (David) Schoh of Caledonia, Paul (Connie) Nielsen of Brownsville, and Karen Nielsen of Decorah, Iowa; four step-children, Thomas (Judy) Herold of Rochester, Minn., David (Sheri) Herold of Waukon, Iowa, Patricia Rosendahl of Cresco, Iowa, and Daniel (Molly) Herold of Rochester, Minn.; seven grandchildren; ten step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild and one on the way; six step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Sherman “Bruce” (Martita) Webster of Buenoes Aires, Argentina; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Schulze of Caledonia; and nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
In addition to her first husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters; and her step-father, Robert Miltz.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 21, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. at the Caledonia United Methodist Church, 308 N. Kingston St. Rev. Mark Bengtson will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Caledonia. Friends may call at the Caledonia United Methodist Church on Monday beginning at 4:00 p.m. and concluding with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Friends may also call at the church on Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.
