Esther Nettie Dee was born March 14, 1909 in Dorchester, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Eliza (Schultz) Dresselhaus. She attended New Albin Elementary School, graduated from New Albin High School and attended Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa, where she received her teachers training certificate. Esther taught school in rural Allamakee County for eight years. On January 17, 1940 she married Clinton Willard Dee at the Methodist Parsonage in New Albin. Esther and Clinton lived in Lansing and New Albin. Together they owned and operated Dee Implement. She became a resident of Bethany Riverside Nursing Home in La Crosse, Wis. in 2009.
Esther had a strong faith and was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in New Albin where she was active in its ladies circles serving as a past president for many years and teaching Sunday School. Esther volunteered at Makee Manor for over 32 years and was a New Albin town judge for elections. She loved baking, especially bread, coffeecakes and sugar cookies and also enjoyed quilting, crocheting and refinishing furniture.
Survivors include her children, Naomi Sue (Sterling) Ness of Kasson, Minn. and Charles (Donna) Dee of Onalaska, Wis.; 4 grandchildren, Timothy Ness of Kasson, Minn., and his son, Coltan; Candie (Joel) Dylhoff of New Dehli, India, and their children Sophia and Karis; Connie Krueger of Tiverton, R.I., and her children Taryn and Mikayla; and Cynthia (Paul) Ziolkowski of Rhinelander, Wis., and their children Bendigo and Esther; a brother, Carl (Irma) Dresselhaus of Davenport, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clinton who died in 1976; 3 brothers, Richard, Leslie and Raymond Dresselhaus; and a sister, Mildred Mundt.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 4, at 11:00 a.m. at New Albin Community Center in New Albin, with Pastor Francis Jones officiating. Burial will be at New Albin City Cemetery, New Albin. Friends may call one hour before services on Tuesday at the New Albin Community Center in New Albin. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon is assisting the family with arrangements.
Casketbearers are Bob, Ray and John Dresselhaus, Tim Ness, Paul Zilkowski and Dick Reinke.
