Martha Lou “Marti Lou” Pitts, 82, of Caledonia, Minn., passed away on Monday, Sept. 3, 2012.
Martha was born May 20, 1930, in Canton, Ohio to Ralph Willard and Mary Leah (Thomas) Pitts. Martha was a 1947 graduate of Canton’s Lehman High School. She then attended Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, Canton, Ohio, graduating in 1950. Martha later completed nurse anesthetist training and was employed as a CRNA for over forty years. Martha was also a mathematician, lover of opera, and a great lover of animals, especially her cats Callie, Freebie, and Goldie; her dog, Bandit, and cats Uli, Gent and Foxie who preceded her in death.
Martha is survived by two sisters, Marjorie Alice Schott, Canton, Ohio, and Marilyn Elaine Denny, Santa Barbara, Calif.; one brother, Thomas Eugene Pitts, Scottsdale, Ariz.; several nieces and nephews; and, as Martha referred to them, her two ‘sisters of the heart’, Karen Gail Jostad, Caledonia, and Cherryl Jostad, La Crescent, Minn.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents; her maternal and paternal grandparents and a nephew.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012, at Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Home, 518 W. Main St., Caledonia, Minn. Chaplain Allan Vrieze will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Martha’s cremains will be buried at a later date.
