The steamroller that is the Caledonia football team continued on its journey Oct. 12 when the Warriors traveled to Southland and cruised to a 38-6 win over the Rebels (3-4).
It was Caledonia’s 19th straight win as the top-ranked Warriors (7-0) got 162 rushing yards on just 18 carries from Brad Strub and also got a touchdown from Levi Schmitz, who scored on a 58 yard fumble recovery in the fourth quarter. Strub put Caledonia up 7-0 with a 37 yard touchdown run in the first quarter, and Levi Schmitz added a 24 yard field goal as the Warriors led 10-0 at the end of the first quarter.
Jacob Swindell added another big run when he scored on a 28 yard dash in the second quarter that gave the Warriors a 17-0 lead at the break. After a three yard pass from Alex Varney to Alex Goetzinger put Caledonia up 24-0, Ryan Pitts intercepted a pass and returned it 51 yards for another score that gave the Warriors a 31-0 lead before Southland got on the board near the end of the quarter. Schmitz’s score from 58 yards out put the finishing touches on the 38-6 win.
Caledonia will end the regular season Wednesday night as they travel to Spring Valley to take on Kingsland at 7 p.m.
