The Caledonia gymnastics team opened up their home schedule Dec. 6 and hosted the La Crescent Lancers in front of a packed house at Caledonia High School.
With standing room only, the Warriors came up a little short when they fell to La Crescent 128.175-115.475. The Lancers won every event on the night, but coach Jackie Johnson was pleased anyway, saying, “We did some improving on the team varsity score, and I was pleased to see us start getting a bit more comfortable competing. Kaylee Cavanaugh added the floor this week and that was a big help to our team score. We hope she can get back on all four events soon.”
Cavanaugh placed fifth on the vault for Caledonia with a score of 8.1, while La Crescent’s Rochelle Thesing ran away from the rest of the field with a 9.025. Tara Solberg placed third on the vault (8.425) and added a third place effort on the bars with a score of 7.05 to place third in the all-around, totaling 29.250 points.
Sierra Hunter turned in the best effort of the night for Caledonia placing second in the all-around with 30.80 points – second only to Thesing who tallied 35.55 total points on the night. Hunter was second on the bars at 7.650, placed fourth on the floor (7.850) and was third on the vault.
Abby Hoskins placed fourth in the all-around with 27.050 points as the Warriors took three of the top four spots in the all-around. Johnson said, “The JV was a lot of fun to watch. We had girls competing for the first time ever, including Claire Bratland, Kerrigan Scanlan, Vendela Parker and Haley Holty, and they did very well. It is always nice to get the ‘new girls’ competing.”
Next up for the Warrior gymnasts is a home meet against Pine Island on Friday, Dec. 14.
