Caroline Wagner

CarolineWagner_webCaroline Ann (Koenig) Wagner, 84, quietly passed from this life on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012, surrounded by the love of family and friends at her home in La Crescent.

Caroline was born in Caledonia, on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, 1927, to Anthony and Anne (Schiltz) Koenig. She attended Catholic Central School until she was needed at home to care for her disabled mother and younger siblings while in the eighth grade. Caroline continued to work both at home and outside the home to provide for her family. On May 14, 1946, she married Bert L. Wagner. Over the next 16 years, Caroline would give birth to 11 children. Raising a happy, healthy family would be her greatest life’s accomplishment and source of pride and joy.

She is survived by ten children, Janice Powell, La Crosse, Wis. William (Terry) Wagner, West Salem, Wis.; Nancy (John) Tauer, Apple Valley, Minn., Cynthia (Michael) McKenna of Madison, Wis.; Alan Wagner of La Crosse; James (Mary) Wagner, Brooklyn Center, Minn.; Julia (Tim) Lee, Nassau, Bahamas; Jane (Daniel) Goetzinger, Caledonia; Kristine (Larry) Williams, Scottsdale, Ariz. and David Wagner, La Crosse; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and two sisters, Mary (Gene) Ferson and Faye Hammell.

Caroline was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Richard Wagner; three sisters, Lois (Harold) Gulbranson and Suzanne and Helen Koenig, and four brothers, Miles (Patricia) Koenig, Boyd Koenig, Norman Koenig, and Anthony, Jr., (Marie) Koenig.

A private family memorial service and burial will be held at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in the spring. The family prefers memorials be made to the many charities Caroline supported, especially those funding the needs of children such as the Salvation Army, St. Jude’s Hospital, UNICEF and CARE.  Jandt-Fredrickson Funeral Homes and Crematory, (Woodruff Chapel), La Crosse, is in charge of arrangements.  Online condolences may be sent at
