To the Editor:
Did you know that when you renew your license plates at the Houston County License Center, the $6 service fee you pay helps to cover the county’s cost to staff the license center and provide you with personal quality service? And have you noticed that when the state sends out your renewal notice they now include an envelope to encourage you to do your renewal by mail?
Did you know that when you use that envelope and mail your renewal to the state, the state also keeps the $6 service fee? The state also offers renewals on-line, but did you know that you pay an extra convenience fee to use your credit card for this service?
We have had many instances where people come to our office for help when they have mailed their renewal to the state, but never received their stickers. Our staff also assists customers with a variety of unique problems and issues with their driver license, vehicle titles and registration, etc. If our local office was not here, you would probably have to drive to Winona, Rochester or even St. Paul for help.
In addition to vehicle licensing, the License Center provides a variety of services, including fishing and hunting licenses, driver licenses, licensing of recreational vehicles (ATV’s, snowmobiles, boats), etc.
The friendly staff at the License Center go the extra mile to provide quality service on a personal level, and we want to continue to provide this service.
We understand the need to make government pay for itself, and we want to do our part – but we need your help. Please utilize the License Center for all of your renewals and help support our local economy.
If it is more convenient, you can mail your renewal to us at: 304 South Marshall Street, Room #110, Caledonia, MN 55921, and we will mail your stickers out to you the same day. We also have a drop box located outside the main entrance of the courthouse where you can drop your renewal form and check before or after hours, and we will mail you your stickers the same day we receive it.
Please help us keep this service at the local level.
We very much appreciate your business.
