Wrestlers role past Dover-Eyota

The Caledonia/Houston/Spring Grove wrestling team won seven of their eight last matches and  cruised to a 44-21 win at Dover-Eyota Jan. 17. Trailing by two points at 15-13 after the match at 138 pounds, the Warriors won seven straight to seal the win and secure their second straight dual meet win.

The Warriors won three of the first four matches of the night. Jacob Winjum rolled to a 15-2 win over Collin Jorde at 106 pounds, and Dylan Lee (120) and Luke Werner (126) both followed with double-digit wins as well. Lee won 15-2 over Ryan Keach, and Werner crushed Dakota Welsh 18-2 to give C/H/SG a 13-3 lead. But Joey Haverty was pinned at 132 pounds, and Dylan Stemper also lost by pin to Ben Boynton to give D-E a 15-13 lead.

But it was all Warriors after that. Blaine Knutson beat Sabian Coto 10-2 at 145 pounds. At 152 Jacob Swindell received a forfeit, and Reece Lange followed with a pin over Owen Riley in 5:41 at 160. Eli Craig blanked Reid Seelhammer 6-0 in their match at 170 pounds to give the Warriors a 32-15 lead. Mitchell Schmitz pinned Cord Anding in 2:22, and David Wagner clawed out an 8-5 win over Collin Hershey at 195. C/H/SG got their final win of the night at 220 pounds when Victor Guth beat Collin Anding 8-2. At 285 pounds Blake Mauss was pinned by Tanner Welsh of D-E at the 5:50 mark for the 44-21 final. Hunter Hauser-Caldwell was beaten by Michael Ottomo 15-8 at 113 pounds.

The Warriors will host Saint Charles Friday night and then travel to Lake City Saturday for a tournament with teams from Blooming Prairie, St. Charles, Rochester Mayo, Plainview-Elgin-Millville, Medford, Hayfield, Chatfield, Lake City and Wabasha-Kellogg all taking part.
