Donald Gale Muenkel, 86, of Osseo, Wis., died Sunday, March 10, 2013 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire.
Donald was born Sept. 12, 1926 in Caledonia, Minn. to Paul and Julia (Burtness) Muenkel. Donald married Shirley Frerking in 1953 in Chippewa Falls. He later married Eilene Roths-Anderson on Oct. 12, 1996 in Osseo.
Donald served in the U.S. Navy. He worked for the United States Postal Service, first on the mail trains throughout the Midwest and later at the Osseo and Eau Claire offices. Donald served on the board for the Town of Garfield, Jackson County for over 25 years and on the council of Osseo Evangelical Lutheran Church.
He enjoyed raising beef cattle on his farm in the Town of Garfield, deer hunting and reading until his eyes began to fail him.
Donald is survived by his wife Eilene; daughter, Janet Burch, Buffalo, Minn; sons Scott Muenkel, Wild Rose, Wis. and Michael Muenkel, Buffalo; step children, Renee (Jerry) Stelter, Osseo; Lori (Donald) Shippee, La Crescent, Minn; Jon (Laura) Anderson, Colorado Springs, Colo. and Paul (Kathy) Anderson, Plover, Wis.; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren. He is further survived by three brothers, Paul (Dianna) Muenkel, Rockford, Ill.; Berkley Muenkel, Portland, Oreg. and Brian (Mary) Muenkel, Rogers, Minn. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Julia Muenkel, and a brother David.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 14 at Osseo Evengelical Lutheran Church with Rev. Lewis Thompson officiating. Burial with military rites was in the Osseo Cemetery.
