Boy tracksters get a run in
The Caledonia/Spring Grove boys track team had the honor of being the first Warrior team of the spring to actually take part in an event when they traveled to the Decorah boys invite April 17.
Coach Carl Fruechte’s team received a great effort from Ryan Pitts when the speedster accounted for 30 of the Warriors 39 team points after he won the 100 meter dash and placed second in the 200.
Pitts was clocked at 11.32 seconds to win the 100 with Sam Schulte placing fifth in the race. Pitts then placed second in the 200 with a time of 23.56 seconds with Jacob Nielsen placing 12th overall. Fruechte said, “I’m happy with the effort. They all went hard time and we will get better with better weather.”
Junior West Spier won the high jump at six feet even, and the 4×100 relay team of Sam Schulte, Alex Goetzinger, Adam Buttell and Pitts placed second with a time of 47.23 seconds. Alex Varney placed 11th in the 400, and Case McCormick was 14th overall.
In the 800 Alex Marshall was ninth and Jayden Prill finished 12th. Phillip Paulson was eighth in the 110 meter hurdles and Alex Marshall placed 9th in the 1600 meter run with Jamie Lenning placing 13th in the 1600 and 12th in the 3,200 meter run.
With a toss of 72 feet, eight inches Mason Ashbacher placed 14th in the discus. Mitchell Anderson placed 8th in the long jump at 17 feet, one and a half inches and Devan Heaney was 13th. Bryan Barthel placed seventh in the shot put at a little over 41 feet. The 4×200 and 4×400 teams placed sixth and seventh in their events.
Both the boys and girls teams were scheduled to travel to Rushford-Peterson Monday and are scheduled for a meet at La Crescent Friday.
