C/SG track teams in action at La Crescent

Both the boy’s and girl’s track teams from Caledonia/Spring Grove took part in the La Crescent Booster Club Invitational April 26. The meet, a non-team scored event also featured teams from Winona, La Crosse Logan, Rushford-Peterson/Houston, La Crosse Aquinas and Onalaska as well as host La Crescent.

On the day both teams picked up their share of first place efforts with the girls getting firsts from Ally Beardmore in the 100 meter dash, Hannah Russert in the 100 hurdles and the triple jump as well as Emma Lange in the high jump. Beardmore broke the tape at 13.8 seconds to win the 100 meter dash with Maria Fruechte placing third (13.97). Russert won the 100 hurdles with a time of 17.11 seconds and placed third in the 300 hurdles at 52.36 seconds. Russert’s leap of 32-2.25 took top honors in the triple jump and Lange easily won the high jump at 5’3 while Alexis King placed third at 4-7”.

Beardmore and Fruechte also placed in the top five in the 200 with Beardmore finishing third and Fruechte fifth. The 4×100 relay team of Beardmore, Josephine Wagner, Samantha Colleran and Tracy Felten placed fifth at 55.96 seconds. The 4×200 team of Lydia DeMorett, Wagner, Felten and Sierra Olinger also placed fifth. Caledonia/Spring Grove also got a pair of fourth place efforts from both the 4×400 and 4×800 relay teams with DeMorett, Irene Abbott, Wagner and Colleran teaming up in the 4×400 and Randi Mehus, Liz Johnson, Abby Schnell and Emma Bulman running the 4×800 in 12:24.21.

In the pole vault Nicole Hanson placed third as she hit 7-9”. In the shot put a toss of 34-6” put Aly Folz squarely in second place. Folz also placed eighth in the discus.

For the Warrior boys Ryan Pitts continued to dominate in the sprints, winning both the 100 and 200 meter dash while West Spier won the high jump. Pitts turned in an 11.39 in the 100 dash and a time of 24.19 in the 200 for top honors. Sam Schulte placed sixth in the 100 and Jacob Nielsen placed seventh in the 200. Spier cleared 6-1” to easily win the high jump by four inches.

The boys also got top 10 finishes from Case McCormick, who placed fourth in the 400 at 58.45 seconds, Alex Marschall (7th – 800, 6th in the 1,600), Phillip Paulson (7th-110 hurdles), the 4×100 relay team of Sam Schulte, Alex Goetzinger, Adam Buttell and Pitts lost by just 4 hundredths of a second with a time of 45.10 seconds, losing to the team from La Crosse Aquinas (45.06). The 4×200 team of Goetzinger, Jacob Nielsen, Mitchell Anderson and Buttell placed fourth in their race at 1:41.01. Spier, Alex Varney, McCormick and Marschall placed fifth in the 4×400. In the long jump Mitchell Anderson was eighth overall while Bryan Barthel placed seventh in the shot put and Mason Ashbacher was sixth in the discus.

Both the boys and girls will take part in their last scheduled meet this Saturday when they travel to P-E-M for a meet scheduled to start at 10 a.m.
