Lady golfers edge Vikings at Decorah

The Caledonia/Spring Grove girl’s golf team put together another win as they beat Decorah by six shots at Decorah April 29.

Led by a 52 from Katie Meyer, the Warriors carded a team score of 220 for the win as the Vikings shot a 226. At the Oneota golf course, Meyer earned co-medalist honors with Decorah’s Talia Raddatz. Julianna Sand carded a 54 and Claire Eglinton added a 55 with Ashley Gavin rounding out the card with a round of 59 over nine holes. “This was another close match and the girl’s did a good job of hanging in there and recovering after some bad holes,” said coach Jacquelyn Hauser. “Katie put together a nice round of 52 and Julianna shot her career low of 54.”

Claudia Melde shot a 61, Rebeckah Schroeder and Katrina Paulson both shot 62’s.

Hauser said “We need to work on eliminating the big numbers and playing smarter golf. We are still looking for a couple of girl’s to step up and break into the 40’s which I think will come as we continue to work hard on short games.”

The team has a busy week with matches Monday at home with Southland, Tuesday at Fillmore Central, Thursday at Southland, Friday the varsity is at Chatfield and the Junior High Conference Tournament is at Preston
