Over 3,300 FFA members participated in the 84th Annual Minnesota State FFA Convention recently held on the University of Minnesota’s St. Paul and Minneapolis Campuses. The State FFA Convention allows FFA members from throughout the state to come together to participate in career development events, workshops, chorus, band and leadership activities along with participating in business sessions.
This year 18 members of the Caledonia FFA Chapter participated in state FFA events.
In addition to the Dairy Cattle Evaluation Team competing at state, four other teams along with one individual participated in state FFA career development events.
Teams that competed are as follows: farm management, soils, ag mechanics and poultry. We also had one individual in the dairy showmanship competition.
Poultry team places 15th
The Caledonia FFA Poultry Evaluation team was a new team to this event following the graduation last year of the whole team. New team members were Emily Hagerott, Tressa King and Brenna Werner. This group of young ladies did a great job for their first appearance in the state event. The team and two individuals earned gold rankings. With such results the future looks bright for this team as a top five contender in the next two years. Forty teams competed in this year’s event with over 150 individuals.
Chayce Krueger placed ninth in this year’s dairy showmanship competition. Chayce earned gold individual honors. Forty-five FFA members participated in this event.
The Soils Team of Josef Pettit, Alex Goergen and Jayden Prill finished state competition as a bronze team this year with Josef Pettit earning silver individual recognition. With Alex and Jayden being 8th graders in their first state event, the team should be more competitive in the future, and all individuals earned silver ribbons. Forty-one teams competed in this year’s event.
The Ag. Mechanics team of Luke Werner, Ben Loging and Zach Gavin finished 20th as a team earning Silver recognition with Luke Werner placing as a Gold Individual. We will miss both Luke and Zack Kasten to graduation this year but hope to find replacements to work with Ben and Zach to make it back to state next year.
This year’s Farm Management Team placed 15th. Team members were Andy Houdek, Matt Meyer, Kevin Lapham and Paul Sires. The team earned silver status along with three individuals on the team. Three of the four members of this team will be lost to graduation this year so there will be an opportunity for other chapter members to get involved.
Great job to everyone who participated in the 84th Minnesota State FFA Convention!
