Led by an 87 from Hunter Rud and an 88 from Devin Schiltz, the Caledonia/Spring Grove boys golf team placed fourth at the Three Rivers Conference meet at The Bridges in Winona last Thursday.
Rud finished eighth overall and Schiltz 10th for coach Jeremy Leis. “I’m really proud of Hunter,” Leis said. “A 40 going out on what is a very tough course, and I’m also proud of Devin.”
Maybe the biggest effort of the day came from freshman Drew Stemper, who finished in a 3-way tie for 16th place overall with a 93. Leis said that it was the first time Stemper had even seen the course in Winona. “To shoot a 93 never seeing the course before as a freshman says a lot,” Leis said.
Wabasha-Kellogg took the conference title shooting a 346, while Rushford-Peterson (356) was second and Lewiston-Altura (362) finished third. Sean Conner carded a 98 to round out the scoring for the Warriors.
The Caledonia/Spring Grove girls team played well also, finishing second behind conference champ W-K. Ashley Gavin shot a 99 to tie for 5th place overall and Katie Meyer finished 10th with a score of 103. Claudia Melde (109) and Hannah Hendel (121) finished the scoring for the girls. Julia sand (123) and Claire Eglinton (128) also golfed for the Warriors.
On May 13 the girls lost by five shots to La Crescent, 210-215. Hannah Hendel led the Warriors with a 52, and Katie Meyer and Ashley Gavin shot a 53 to lead the Warriors.
On the same day the boys lost at Fillmore Central 181-198, but four days later the boys improved their score by 21 strokes in a 174-177 loss to FC at Ma Cal. Cody Breezer shot a round of 44. On Monday the teams hosted Kingsland in a two-for-one match.
Up next is the sub section meet this Friday at Winona for both the boys and girls teams.
