He was born March 20, 1960 in La Crosse, Wis. to Arlin and Jean (Schaller) Gran. He lived in La Crescent and attended school there until second grade, and then moved to Reno and attended Brownsville, Freeburg and Caledonia schools, graduating from Caledonia High School in 1978. He attended Willmar Vo-Tech, graduating from the diesel mechanic program. Dan and friends moved to Wyoming for a time and he made lifelong memories with these very special friends.
Dan married Regina “Gina” Bauer May 10, 1986 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Caledonia. He worked as a diesel mechanic at Reinhart Food, La Crosse until his health required him to retire. Dan talked about his teenage years working on his grandparents’ farm in Freeburg. He was so proud when he purchased his own farm in Freeburg in 1995 and built his cabin. His passion for hunting instilled in him by his own father has been passed down to his kids.
Dan may not have been a religious man in the sense of going to church every Sunday, but if you saw him out on his tractor, or on his four wheeler checking cattle, that was his way of loving God, life and nature, and the beautiful farm the Good Lord blessed him with.
He is survived by his wife, Gina; his parents, Arlin and Jean Gran; and his children, Cassie, Lindsay and Tanner Gran, all of Caledonia; his sister and her family, Leann (Russ), Chance and Chelsea Finlay, Dade City, Fla.; his brothers and their families, Mike (Karen), Zach, Courtney and Josh Gran; Greg (Tina) and Kyle Gran, all of Caledonia; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Gordon and Wanda Bauer; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Dan Bauer, Greg Bauer, Maria Keefe, Brian (Kim) Bauer, Sara (Tracy) Ludgood and Kevin (Kerri) Bauer; and many other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, William and Blanche Schaller, Myrtle Stugen, and Adolph “Duffy” Gran.
