Baseball season ends at Cotter with 6-1 loss
The Caledonia/Spring Grove 2013 varsity baseball team finished their season with a 6-1 loss to Winona Cotter Thursday, May 23 in the first round of the 1AA tournament at Cotter. The Warriors (2-11 overall) were seeded #7, while Cotter garnered the #2 seed with a 10-8 record overall.
Cotter scored twice in the fourth inning and added two more in the sixth for the win. Harrison Speltz went 2×3 with a double and drove in the Warriors only run in the game. Kai Lidstrom took the loss giving up three runs in four innings of work. Owen Burnikel got the win for Cotter, striking out nine and giving up five hits.
On Tuesday the Warriors traveled to Wabasha-Kellogg to end the regular season and lost 7-1 to the Falcons. “We had a hard time today generating offense,” coach Dave Konz said. “When we would get runners on we stranded them. When you don’t give yourself any run production it makes it difficult to win.”
The Warriors took a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Mason DeMorett reached on a fielder’s choice and scored on Joseph Pettit’s base hit to left field. But W-K scored twice in the bottom of the first and never looked back, adding four more runs in the second and another in the fifth. They improved to 12-1 overall with the win.
Blaine Storlie took the loss, going the distance while giving up 11 hits and striking out five.
