When the 2013 MSHSL state track meets hit the ground this Friday and Saturday, the Caledonia/Spring Grove Warriors will be represented by four athletes.

Juniors Ryan Pitts, West Spier and Aly Folz, along with senior Emma Lange, will make the trek to Hamline University to compete in Class A competition after coming out of the section championship in Winona May 28 and 30.

The veteran Lange will be making her fifth straight trip to state in the high jump after winning the section meet at 5’4”. In 2009 as an eighth grader Lange placed eighth at state and followed that with a 3rd place effort of 5’4” her freshman year. The next season Lange won the state championship as a sophomore clearing  5’8” and then placed second as a junior a year ago after missing much of the entire season due to an ankle surgery. Her qualifying jump of 5’4” this year is the best mark of any of the 16 jumpers in the Class A meet, and she is certainly a favorite to return to the podium for the fourth straight year.

Junior Aly Folz continues her amazing run as she makes her second trip to state in the shot put. At the section meet Folz placed second behind Zumbrota-Mazeppa’s Maddie Lindhart, who won the shot put with a throw of 37’3.25” while Folz measured a toss of 35’0.75”.

On the boys side Ryan Pitts will compete at state in both the 100 and 200 meter dash after winning the 100 with a time of 11.36 seconds and placing second in the 200 at Winona with a time of 23.34 seconds. Pitts was part of the 4×200 relay team that went to state a year ago. Along with Connor McCormick, Aric Elmore and Adam Drenkhahn, the team placed eighth last season.

Junior West Spier will also compete in the high jump at state after hitting the 6’3” mark at the section meet. Spier is one of seven jumpers who all are at the same height going into the state meet. Matt Neururer of Pillager looks to be the favorite with a seeding mark of 6’8”

Three of the four will start their competition this Friday. Pitts is scheduled to run Friday  in the 100 prelims at 3:59 p.m. and the 200 at 6:02 p.m. Lange’s first jump is scheduled around 3:30 p.m. Friday, and Spier and Folz are not scheduled to begin competition in their events until Saturday with both scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
