He was born Aug. 4, 1931, in Caledonia to Paul and Esther (Meyer) Diersen. Donald was a lifelong farmer and enjoyed going for drives out to the farm after his retirement. He served on the Mayville Township Board and he was a member of St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Caledonia. He enjoyed going to the B & M Service Station in Caledonia every morning to catch up on the local news before going out to the farm. Donald was also an avid Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Twins fan.
Alice Marie Margaret Diersen, 79, of Caledonia, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, June 13, 2013, with her family by her side at Tweeten Lutheran Heathcare Center, Spring Grove, Minn. She was born Aug. 2, 1933, in Caledonia, to Frank and Martha (Burmester) Bolduan. Alice was a homemaker and enjoyed helping on the family farm. She also enjoyed gardening, baking, embroidering, and doing Find-A-Word puzzles. She was a member of St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Caledonia where she served on the Ladies Aid.
On Aug. 12, 1951, Donald and Alice were united in marriage at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Caledonia. Together they enjoyed watching their grandchildren participate in football and basketball.
They are survived by their children, John (Karyl) Diersen, Jean (Greg) Middendorf, Donna (Lester) Banse, Barb Twite and Jim Diersen, all of Caledonia; grandchildren, Jayson (Natalie) Diersen, Josh (Alissa) Diersen, Mike Middendorf, Aaron (Amanda) Middendorf, Luke Middendorf, Matt (Jenny) Banse, Melissa (Mark) Augedahl, Mitchell Banse, Jessi (Kevin) Tischhauser, and Stephani (Corey) Gantenbein; great-grandchildren, Morgan, Aliyah, Griffin, Tristan, Sienna, Savannah, Marah, Miranda, Brody, Gunnar, Isabel and one on the way, and many nieces and nephews.
Donald is further survived by his sister, Fernanda (Gerald) Loeffler; and his brother, Marc (Toni Mallet) Diersen. Alice is further survived by her sisters, Verna (Gordon) Gerdes and Marcile Kuecker; her brother, Burton (Joyce) Bolduan; and her sister-in-law, Arlys Bolduan.
Donald and Alice were preceded in death by each of their parents; their infant son, Allen; and their son-in-law, Dennis Twite. Alice was also preceded in death by a brother, Roland Bolduan; a brother, Frank, in infancy; a sister and brother-in-law, Dolores and Bud Schmidt; and a brother-in-law, Mervin Kuecker.
Funeral services for Donald and Alice will be Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, 650 N. Kingston St., Caledonia. Rev. Tom Schultz will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. A visitation will be held at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church on Monday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
