Caledonia Rotary brewing up some fun
By Emily Bialkowski
Something is brewing in Caledonia and it’s not a land-use dispute. The Caledonia Bluff Country Brewfest, sponsored by the Caledonia Rotary Club, is set to take place Saturday, July 13 at the Houston County Fairgrounds. Domestic and international craft beers and wines will be showcased during the four-hour event along with a salsa contest.
Proceeds from Brewfest will benefit Rotary efforts. “One of our commitments is a three year pledge for the aquatic center. We’re also committed to maintenance on the city’s gazebo, as well as an international project for a surgery center to repair cleft pallets in Central America. We also have a financial commitment to maintain college scholarships to Caledonia high school graduates and support The Rotary Works Foundation, a foundation comprised of the eight La Crosse area Rotary clubs, and a high school ethics conference,” Rotarian Steve Reiman said.
What better way to support these efforts then by taking in a few craft brews and enjoying local entertainers, who will strum away throughout the event.
Over 15 brewers will be represented with over 45 different flavors of beer in addition to the spoils of La Crescent’s Riverview Vineyard and Winery. Some of the selections include: Abita, Alaskan, August Schell, Boulevard, Bud Light Lime-a-Rita, Bud Light Platinum, Capitol, Flat Earth, Grand Teton, Horny Goat, Millstream, Odell, Ovalde, Redhook, Shock Top, Smirnoff, Sprecker, Stevens Point, Summit, Tallgrass and Widmer.
In addition, a salsa contest will take place with the winner earning bragging rights and the chance to don a sombrero. All are welcome to participate in the salsa contest. Simply bring 1 quart of salsa – fresh or home-canned.
Tickets are $25 apiece and can be purchased from your friendly Caledonia Rotarian, or call Reiman at 507-724-1011. Tickets include a tasting glass, recognition to the winner of the second annual salsa contest, tasting of wine and beer and lunch featuring hot dogs, Spring Grove soda and entertainment by local celebrities. Beverage reps will also be on hand to provide flavor profiles.
The event will be held at the Houston County Fairgrounds from 1 to 5 p.m.
“It’s just a great social gathering,” Reiman said, made possible in part by these local sponsors: Caledonia Haulers Inc., Miken Sports, Merchants Bank and Bank of the West.
