Trudy was born in Menomonie, Wis. to Julius and Rose (McKanna) Lemke on March 18, 1924. She attended 1 room Hudson Road School, then St. Joseph’s Grade School, and graduated from Menomonie High School in 1941. She worked in the office of the Creamery in Menomonie, then moved to La Crosse and lived with Mary Margaret, her sister. She worked in the Office of Standard Oil Co.
Trudy married Bernard J. Wieser on January 21, 1950. She learned to be a farm wife, and together with Bernie raised six children. Trudy, a social person, maintained friendships with friends and relatives in Menomonie, Standard Oil, and The Birthday Club. She was active in her Township as Treasurer for nearly 25 years, and helped with many elections. Along with Bernie she was active in the Houston County Farm Bureau. Trudy won many awards for her baking entries in Farm Bureau contests. She was active in St. Peter’s Parish, helping in various capacities with the Roast Beef Dinners and The Apple Pie Baking Project, all to support St. Peter’s School. Trudy was employed at the Kwik Trip Commissary for 10 years. In her 80’s she waitressed at the Sidewalk Café in Hokah, which coincidentally provided Mobile Meals for she and dad, when she no longer was able to bake and cook. Trudy made it her mission to remember people and their names and how they were connected. As Alzheimers Disease progressed this important part of Trudy was taken away. Her children treasure that she recognized them and could call them by name, up to a few weeks and days before her death.
Trudy is survived by her husband, Bernard; daughter, Pat (Dick) Berendes; sons, Tom (Kim), Bill (Pam), John (Kathy), Jim (Mary) and Mark (Molly); grandchildren, Chuck (Polly) Berendes, Gabe (Annie) Berendes, Anna (Tim) Shebesta, Nathan, Greta and Steve Wieser, Stephanie (Ryan) Decker, Jon (Ashley) Wieser, Chrissy (Dave) Hackfort, Adam Wieser, Jill (Jesse) Goembel, Jasmine Wieser, Eve Marie (Josh) Landsinger, Danny Wieser, Clara, Abby and Ben Wieser; great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Louie, Hank Berendes, Eddie and Benet Berendes, Brooklyn and Ashton Decker, Olivia and Reagan Hackfort, Coley Monica Wieser, Leanna Wieser, Kimberly and Vanessa Landsinger. Trudy was preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Rose; a sister, Margaret Mary (Schiltz) Colleran; her brother, Rev. John J. Lemke; sisters-in-law, Sister Julianna Wieser, SSND and Sister Aloysius Wieser, SSND, Dorothy (Wieser) Klug; brothers-in-law, Eugene Schultz, Bill Colleran and Rainer Klug and granddaughter, Monica Ann Wieser.
Trudy’s family would like to thank her Butterfield Valley neighbors. Friends from Hokah and surrounding area and Menomonie; relatives whom she knew and loved; St. Peter’s Church and School staff and members; Dr. Peter Franta; Houston County Public Health Nursing Dept.; Dr. Tom Loepfe and team from the Geriatrics Dept., Mayo-Franciscan Healthcare; Dr. Cindy Dooley DPM, Golden Living Center Staff and Mayo Franciscan Healthcare Hospice Team.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Hokah with Rev. Pratap Reddy Salibindla officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Friends and family called at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services, La Crescent on Sunday from 5-7 p.m. where a prayer service was held at 5:00 p.m., and again at the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.
