Special to the Caledonia Argus

The Caledonia FFA Dairy Cattle Evaluation Team is making final plans and preparations to head to Harrisburg, Pa., to compete at the All American Invitational Youth Dairy Cattle Judging contest.

This year’s team qualified to compete with their runner up finish at the 2013 Minn. FFA state dairy cattle evaluation career development event held back in April.

The Caledonia team will represent Minnesota FFA at this event.  Team members that will be competing are Aaron Houdek, Lauren Hendel, Justin Stemper and Chayce Krueger.

Hendel will not be able to attend as she will be starting her first week of college, so team alternate Chayce Krueger will be taking her spot.  Good luck at college, Hannah!

The 45th Invitational Judging Contest is being held in conjunction with the 50th Anniversary of the All American Dairy Show, which runs from Sept. 7 through 12. This year’s theme is “Celebrating Generations of Excellence.”

Teams competing in this event will evaluate and place 10 classes of dairy cattle selected from the following breeds: Ayrshire, Brown Swiss, Guernsey, Holstein and Jersey. Team members will also give a set of oral reasons on three of the 10 classes that will be evaluated.  Classes will be identified the day of the event as to the reasons classes.

Following a full day of competition, the team will attend the annual awards banquet on Monday evening Sept. 9 for contest results.  The team will head back to Minnesota on a late flight on Tuesday with plans of some site seeing at the Nation’s Capital before heading back.

Several requests have also been made that we stop at the Hershey Candy Factory in Hershey, Pa., to bring back treats.

The Caledonia FFA dairy cattle evaluation team would like to thank everyone that has made this trip possible and to everyone that came and supported the brat cookout at Quillins on the 30th. We will recognize everyone individually upon our return as we share the results of this event.

We would also like to thank our school board, administration and teachers for the opportunity to participate in this event.
