If you’ve ever wanted to know what it feels like to be a movie star, come to the annual “Puttin’ on the Ritz” event scheduled for Oct. 19 at Camp Winnebago. This year’s theme is “Hollywood Glitz,” and the camp’s social hall will be transformed into a star-worthy venue for a night of wonderful food, entertainment and fundraising to support the Camp Winnebago mission.
Camp Winnebago has served developmentally disabled individuals since 1967. Through its programs, children and adults who are unable to participate in a typical summer camp can experience a wide range of activities that other people take for granted.
“We operate the camp only in the summer months, but our expenses continue all year round,” Camp Director Barb Cage said. “There is constant maintenance and upkeep on all our buildings and our vehicles,” she continued. “We could not possibly charge the campers what it takes to keep the camp running – they would not be able to afford it.”
There will be a silent auction, a dessert auction, live auction, gun raffle and entertainment featuring popular music from hit movies. Guests are invited to dress up as their favorite movie characters for a chance at a prize.
Tickets for the event are $50 per person, $80 per couple or $500 for a table of eight. Guests will be walking the red carpet beginning at 5:30, and dinner will be served at 6:30.
