Led by another big night from senior Ryan Pitts, the Caledonia Warriors rolled into Adams Friday night and rolled back out with a 42-8 win to remain undefeated on the season.

Pitts scored four touchdowns in the game, three rushing and another on an 83 yard kickoff return, as Caledonia, ranked #1 in Class AA in the state, jumped out to a 28-0 halftime lead and never looked back. Maybe even more impressive was the Caledonia defense, as the Warriors held the Rebels to just one yard of offense the entire first half.

“Wow, they played a lot better than I thought they did,” coach Brent Schroeder said.

“We played numerous people the whole game – even some freshmen got in – and I was excited all the way around. Overall I’m very happy.”

Pitts scored on an 11 yard run in the first quarter to put the Warriors in the lead and then added two more touchdown runs in the second quarter to put Caledonia in command at 21-0.

Quarterback Mason DeMorett then hit Sam Schulte with a nine yard touchdown pass later in the quarter to give the Warriors a four-touchdown lead at the break.

Alex Goetzinger then made a fabulous catch in the endzone to put Caledonia up 35-0. “That was a huge catch by Alex,” Schroeder said. “He is really turning into a leader for us, on the field and off.”

Southland finally got on the board when quarterback Trent Reinartz hit Alex Ruethel with a three yard touchdown pass, but Pitts took the wind out of Southland’s sails when he returned the kickoff 83 yards for a touchdown, finishing the night with 200 yards of total offense.

Adam Buttell had four catches for 51 yards, and Sam Schulte had four for 49 and a touchdown. DeMorett finished 9-for-18 for 112 yards passing and a pair of scores.

Caledonia improved to 4-0 going into Friday night’s game at home against Fillmore Central. “They are a lot bigger and more physical than some of the teams we’ve faced,” Schroeder said. “A lot like Chatfield, it will be another good test for us.”
