Live for color and participate in Leve for Farge fun run

Autumn brings to the earth a new pallet of colors different from what the summer pallet has been. Colors of golden yellows, vibrant oranges and hearty rusts adorn the trees, shrubbery and plants that surround us. What better time to enjoy a jaunt through the beautiful countryside that surrounds Spring Grove. And to take that jaunt on foot and absorb all of the colors along the way is a wonderful way to spend part of a day.

The Bluff Country Artists Gallery is excited to be hosting Spring Grove’s first-ever Leve for Farge 5K Fun Run during Uff Da Fest on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 10 a.m. Leve for Farge is the Norwegian translation of Live for Color.

“This is like no run we have ever done before here in Spring Grove,” Patty Storlie, Uff Da Fest committee member, said. “Our focus is on having fun with family, friends and community while raising money for a great organization. It is also a low-key fitness event for all ages and levels of fitness during one of the most beautiful times of the year!”

What makes this fun run unique is that it is a color-explosion fun run. At each kilometer, participants will be blessed with a color shower – a washable powdered paint that is tossed at them. At the end of the race, there will be a group color explosion in celebration of completing the run and in remembrance of the beautiful colors that we live among.

For those that want to make their unique colored shirts permanent, there will be instructions on how to wash them. For others that only want a temporary coloring, there will be a wash station in the park. Also, during the fun run, for those that don’t wish to receive as much color, they can use the center lane. The fun run will start out in Viking Memorial Park and continue into the countryside making a loop and finishing once again in the park.

A clock will be given to participants that want an unofficial time, but specific times will not be recorded. People are encouraged to dress in costume or gather a group of friends and make a team with a fun theme. A trophy will go to the best costume!

“All fitness levels – runners and walkers – and all ages are welcome to participate in the fun run. Strollers are also fine, but parents should keep in mind that they also might get a little colored!” Storlie said. “Kids will have as much fun with this as the adults!”

Following the fun run’s final color explosion there will be food available in the park plus music by Sandy Good. Many other events will also be going on throughout town including kids’ Viking games.

Registration can be done online through the Uff Da fest website, www.uffdafest.com, or by printing out the registration form on the site and mailing it to the gallery or dropping it off during business hours. Registration is $25 for adults and $15 for youth prior to Sept. 27. Participants can also register on the day of the Fun Run, but the fees increase.

On Friday evening, a free-will donation pasta dinner will be hosted by the gallery and the SMIF (Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation)-funded Community Growth Initiative (CGI) team as a community celebration of the successful implementation of the three projects in Spring Grove that SMIF helped fund. All community members as well as fun run participants are encouraged to attend.

Leve for Farge participants will be able to pick up their fun run packets. The meal will be in the Peanut Gallery by the American Legion from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Following the dinner, the Alaska String Band will play at the Spring Grove Cinema at 7 p.m.
