Caledonia FFA members have kicked off the year with a busy and productive start.
Twelve members of the Caleonia FFA participated in this year’s Miller Invitational Livestock Evaluation Contest sponsored by the Mabel-Canton FFA and hosted at Miller Viewlawn Angus.
Our top place team finished third with Austin Werner earning top individual honors. Kyle Jennings followed up with a second individually.
Other members of the third place team were Cameron Munson, Hannah Bolduan and Ethan Dvorak.
Our second team consisted of Nicole Kirchner, Ashley Gavin, Serria Olinger and Casey Scanlan, and our third team was Sarah Serres, Matt Marrow and Karli Fishbauger. This event was a great opportunity for FFA members to improve their observation, evaluation and reasoning skills. Over 30 teams for area schools participated.
Livestock, Dairy and Horse
Dairy Team places first
The dairy team of Lauren Hendel, Aaron Houdek, Justin Stemper and Chayce Krueger won this year’s Stewartville Invitational Dairy Cattle Evaluation contest. Justin Stemper led the team with a second place individual finish, and teammates Aaron Houdek and Chayce Krueger placed seventh and eighth, respectively. Lauren Hendel also had a decent day.
Our second dairy team of James Tewes, Jacob Meyer and Matt Marrow did well in the event but were unable to break into the top 10.
Livestock team sixth
The livestock team of Austin Werner, Kyle Jennings, Nicole Kirchner and Hannah Bolduan placed sixth overall in this year’s event.
Our second team of Ashley Gavin, Serria Olinger, Karli Fishbauger and Catrina Darling and our third team of Casey Scanlan, Sarah Serres, Zach Gavin and Bailey Peterson had a good day as well but did not place in the top 10.
Several members are competing to earn one of the five spots available on the team that will represent us at regions.
Team members traveled to the University of Minnesota to compete in invitational events in dairy, livestock, horse, poultry and soils evaluation. This was in preparation for the Regional CDE’s held Oct. 11 at UW River Falls.
