On Oct. 8 several members of the Caledonia FFA Chapter traveled to the St. Paul Campus of the University of Minnesota and the Minnesota State Fairgrounds to compete in five different career development events. Members competed in dairy cattle, livestock, horse, poultry and soils evaluation events.
Dairy Team places 2nd
Over 50 FFA teams competed in the dairy cattle evaluation contest with the team of Lauren Hendel, Aaron Houdek, Justin Stemper and Chayce Krueger placing 2nd.
Lauren Hendel led the team placing 7th individually followed by Justin Stemper 11th, Chayce Krueger 18th and Aaron Houdek 31st. This was the final practice before the regional event held in River Falls on Oct. 11. Jacob Meyer and Matt Morrow also participated as individuals in this event.
Two livestock evaluation teams from Caledonia participated this year. The team of Kyle Jennings, Austin Werner, Hannah Bolduan and Casey Scanlan placed 23rd, and the team of Sarah Serres, Karli Fishbauger, Catrina Darling and Ethan Dvorak placed 27th. Over 70 teams competed in this event. With the results from this event – and other events the FFA members have participated in – we will send a five-person team for regional competition.
Two members of the chapter participated in the horse evaluation contest. Madison Zehnder and Serria Olinger gained valuable experience in this year’s event to help them prepare for regional’s.
The poultry team of Tressa King, Emily Hagerott, Ella Pieper and Nathan Hagerott placed 16th in this year’s event. This is the first contest for new team members Ella and Nathan. We were also missing, Brenna Werner who was part of the team that competed at state last year. This was a great practice for the team.
The soils team of Josef Pettit, Andy Houdek and Henry Russert placed 24th. With two new members to this team we have some extra work to do in preparation for regional competition.
