Eric was born in Caledonia, Minn., on April 3, 1980, to Forrest and Linda (Neumann) Sauer.He graduated with the Caledonia High School Class of 1998. Eric worked a short time in construction and then went on to pursue a career in the motocross industry. His career began at Two Brother’s Honda in La Crosse, Wis., and in 2007, he started his own business, ESR. Eric traveled the U.S. as a mechanic and enjoyed customizing bikes for performance and speed. Whether he was traveling or working in the shop, his attention to detail was always evident.
Eric married Bethany Schroeder on May 4, 2002. They lived in Holmen, Wis. before moving to Eitzen, Minn. in 2008. The Eitzen community embraced Eric, his family, and his business. He was proud to call it home and to be a member of the Eitzen Volunteer Fire Department.
Eric was a loving father, husband, son, brother, and uncle. As passionate as he was about his business and racing motocross, his greatest passion and pride reflected in his loving relationship with his wife and daughters. They will miss him dearly along with all those who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife, Bethany, and daughters, Alexis and Kaitlyn, all of Eitzen; his parents, Forrest and Linda Sauer, Freeburg, Minn.; sisters and brothers, Stacy (Jodi) Rud and their children, Vanessa and Hunter, Caledonia; Christine Sauer, La Crosse; Mark Sauer, New Albin, Iowa; Matthew (Danielle) Sauer and Tyler Sauer, both of Eitzen; and Holly Sauer, Freeburg; his maternal grandparents, Francis and Mary Bruening, Freeburg; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Reuben and Kathy Schroeder, Caledonia; his brother-in-law, Paul (Joanne) Schroeder and their children, Will and Emma; and his sister-in-law, Anna (Brad) Bernau and their children, Isaac and Ava, all of Caledonia; and many aunts and uncles and dear friends.
Eric was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Edward and Rita Sauer and his aunt, Kathy Sauer.
A private service will be Monday, Nov. 25, 2013, at 2 p.m., at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, Eitzen. Rev. Todd Krueger will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Following the services at the church and cemetery, a celebration of Eric’s life will be at the Eitzen Community Center from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. All of Eric’s family and friends are invited to attend.
