Success on the gridiron continues for Caledonia alumni Travis Frank, a freshman on the Rochester Community and Technical College football team. Frank and the rest of the Yellowjackets will play in the Graphic Edge Bowl against Iowa Central on Dec. 8 at 11 a.m. The game will be played at the University of Northern Iowa’s dome in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
After winning two state titles in high school with the Warriors, Frank made the jump to RCTC – a D3 NJCAA school – where he plays both linebacker and safety for the Yellowjackets.
RCTC, ranked 7th in the nation, finished the season 10-1 and won both the Minnesota College Athletic Conference title as well as the MCAC state championship with a 27-14 win over Central Lakes College on Sunday, Nov. 10. In that game Frank recorded five tackles and an interception for the Yellowjacket defense.
For the season Frank was credited with 36 solo tackles and 17 assists, 4.5 sacks and a pair of interceptions. Another Warrior alumni, Teddy Barthel, is also a member of the squad this season, and both he and Frank will return next year. The Iowa Central Tritons will be making their 15th bowl appearance under coach Kevin Twait.
RCTC coach Bill Quistorff was named NJCAA Region 13 Coach of the Year following the State Championship game.
