Remember true spirit of Thanksgiving during holidays

To the Editor:

This Thanksgiving, as we gather with our friends and families in celebration, it is important to reflect on our blessings and the many things for which we should be grateful.

Too often throughout the year we take our freedom and our way of life for granted. This year, please remember to pause and give thanks for the brave men and women serving in our armed forces both here and abroad. We owe them a huge debt of gratitude for their selfless service and we couldn’t be more privileged to have such a strong group protecting our freedoms.

This is also an important time to remember those of us that are less fortunate. While there are numerous organizations that appreciate financial contributions, giving to charity can take on many shapes; from donating food or clothing to volunteering at a church or local food shelf. One of the things I am most thankful for is our generosity of spirit and kindness toward strangers. As a society, we have a unique ability to band together to aid those of us that are in need. This generosity is what makes our nation great.

It is easy to get caught up in Black Friday deals or football games, but we should not forget the true spirit of Thanksgiving. I wish you all a safe and Happy Thanksgiving!

Sincerely,
