Ernest ‘Ernie’ Maynard Roble, age 91, of Spring Grove, Minn., passed away Friday, Dec. 6, 2013 at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, Wis.
Ernie was born on May 22, 1922, to Edwin and Mandy (Johnson) Roble. He was a 1940 Caledonia High School graduate. He attended Winona State University and the University of Minnesota.
Ernie married Signe Roverud on Oct. 7, 1945 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove. They recently celebrated 68 years of marriage. The couple farmed in Wilmington Township until 1980. After retiring, Ernie sold Wilmington Insurance for over 20 years. He was a member of the ASCS board, treasurer for Wilmington Cemetery for 35 yrs, and on the Cemetery board for 25 yrs.
Ernie was a lifelong member of Wilmington Lutheran Church, serving on church council. Ernie enjoyed bowling and golfing. He and Signe enjoyed traveling and took many bus trips. He was a member of the Pitchfork and Shovel Society. He also enjoyed attending his grandkids sporting events in Spring Grove, where he was voted fan of the year.
He is survived by his wife, Signe, Spring Grove and his children, Craig (Linda) Roble, Eden Prairie, Minn.; Joyce (Steve) Bergrud; and Jennifer (Dean) Ellingson both of Spring Grove; grandchildren, Angela (Nate) Paul, Peter (Tiffany Tweito) Bergrud, Jason (Tammy) Roble, Lisa (Luke) Leadbetter, Niklas Roble, Sam and Nicole Ellingson; great-grandchildren, Chandler, Garrett and Lily Bergrud, Isaac Gengler, Payton and Carter Paul and Ryan Leadbetter; his brother, Burnell (Gloria) Roble, Spring Grove; a sister-in-law, Billie Jean Roble,Charleston, S.C.; and a brother-in-law, Lester Wiegrefe, Caledonia, Minn.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Keith; two grandchildren, Sara Bergrud and Joel Roble; and siblings, Obert, Mike, A. Raymond Roble and Charlotte Wiegrefe.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Dec. 9 at 11 a.m. at Wilmington Lutheran Church in rural Spring Grove. Pastor Neal Solomonson will officiate. Burial will be in the Wilmington Church Cemetery.
Friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Roble Funeral Home in Spring Grove and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
